Framing

Most of the houses in North America are built with wood frame construction. It’s difficult to build in warmer climates with this system due to termites feasting on the wood. Can you imagine…’Timber”!  Floors,

Walls and Roofs are framed with timber members, spaced evenly and then sheathed with plywood, oriental strand board or tongue & groove boards. The sheathing creates a diaphragm to restrict lateral movement. There are always new building materials and methods being used; some fail to meet the demand and others now have a strong foothold in the industry. Floor trusses have been introduced to replace floor joists, although sometimes more expensive, the trades prefer them and can run their services through the truss web or openings provided. Floor trusses can span greater distances which cuts down on the number of posts, beams or bearing walls.  Wall studs in rooms with high ceilings are being replaced with composite studs that are better able to withstand stronger wind loads. Roof trusses have been used for at least thirty years, replacing the conventional rafter framing.  Roof and floor trusses are manufactured products and are shipped to the building site as components to the overall structure.
