The Designer

NC Designs was established in 1987 and provides a design and drafting service for the construction industry. A strong desire to create and the need to understand design led me to study architecture. I am not an architect, I refer to myself as a house designer. It was following this that house designs became a large part of my service. Educated in England as an architectural / construction technician and employed in an architects’ office up until 1975, I then ventured to Canada. During the course of my career I have worked with architects and engineering firms on projects ranging from high rise offices, apartment buildings, industrial and residential developments, to small house additions. Knowledge of the building codes, by-laws, construction techniques and practices are maintained and upgraded constantly. The aim and direction taken in all my designs is to achieve an attractive form or sense of curb appeal along with an interior layout based on the client’s needs. Keeping layouts simple but functional can often result in construction savings from expedient work and less material cost.

Designer Nigel Collinson is the past President and a founding member of the Nova Scotia Home & Building Designers Associations and is a recipient of numerous Nova Scotia Home and NSHBDA awards.
